Information Security Specialist
American Express – Arizona – $20–$30 per hour – 8 hour shift.
Job Overview
The role is part of the technology team and involves designing, coding, and operating secure systems that support product, design, engineering, site reliability, and software teams within American Express.
Responsibilities
- Translate business requirements into detailed data and metric solutions.
- Design innovative solutions that incorporate new technologies and support data governance initiatives.
- Build and maintain data pipelines to support complex data ingestion and extraction needs.
- Lead and mentor Data Engineers/Data Security Analysts.
- Handle multiple concurrent projects with tight client deadlines.
- Adapt to evolving requirements, standards, and priorities.
- Understand diverse data sets and derive actionable insights to address client needs.
- Identify and resolve data quality issues, ensuring consistency and reliability.
- Conduct data analysis to uncover patterns and correlations.
- Optimize queries and provide performance improvements.
- Manage client relationships and expectations.
- Collaborate effectively within a cross‑functional team, maintaining composure under pressure.
- Coordinate with principal and other Data Security Specialists to define system requirements and prototype new features.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, or Information Systems.
- Approximately 2 years of experience with data pipelines, including ETL, ELT, batch processing, streaming, and event‑driven architectures.
- Experience with relational data stores in a data warehouse context (MS SQL, PostgreSQL).
- Experience with green‑plum or other massively parallel processing systems.
- Experience with large data ecosystems such as Hadoop, Spark, HDFS, and Flume.
- Strong knowledge of analytics and reporting platforms that deliver metrics and insights, including PowerBI, Tableau, Looker, Dataproc, Data Studio, and Qlik.
- Proficiency in scheduling, execution tuning, monitoring, and performance optimization of data pipelines.
- Solid critical‑thinking skills and the ability to clearly articulate design decisions.
- Experience data mining, filtering, and tuning large data sets.
- Familiarity with data security technologies and practices.
- Self‑directed, able to develop solutions, research approaches, and collaborate independently without supervision.
- Experience with at least one programming language beyond SQL (e.g., Python, C#, Java, JavaScript).
