Before and After School Age Support Assistant $18-20/hr.

Journey School Lynnwood (JSL) is looking for passionate and dedicated Before and After School Age Assistant to join our team:

This is a full-time position, Monday-Friday, scheduled hours of 8am-4:45pm.

The ideal candidate for this position will play a vital role in creating a supportive and engaging environment for our before and after school students. During the hours that the before and after students are at their elementary school, you will provide extra support and coverage within JSL's classroom(s) and campus.

This involves working closely with children in various educational and recreational settings, ensuring their safety and promoting their development. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for education and experience in working with children, fostering a positive atmosphere that encourages learning and growth.

  • Do you love working with kids? JSL a Reggio-inspired, partial outdoor preschool that uses child-lead, project-based, emergent curriculum.
  • Do you like to create projects, activities and learning opportunities for kids? Teachers create and implement programming that is developmentally appropriate and integrates hands-on activities and learning.
  • Do you enjoy the outdoors, investigating and exploring the environment around you? Candidates must love being outdoors with kids, getting down on their level in all sorts of weather and engaging/building a bond/connection.
  • Can you keep your composure when multitasking and prioritizing multiple needs at the same time? Candidates must be able to model positive behavior management and engagement.
  • Do you find joy in everyday silliness and work toward being part of a team? Having a sense of humor, being a team player and calm under pressure is critical.

Our philosophy is based upon both the Reggio-Emilia and Forest School approach. Our belief is that children are competent individuals who can construct their own meaning of their experiences. The teacher’s role is not to provide all the correct answers, but rather to provide a setting for discovery and learning.

Our approach is hands-on and multi-sensory. We recognize that children have a natural curiosity and a predisposition to enjoy both the expected and unexpected. Children engage in active exploration and investigation to make sense of their world. This happens through trial and error, asking questions, taking risks and challenging themselves. We strive to fuel children’s investigative impulses by encouraging discovery, promoting questioning, challenging ideas, and assisting the children in formulating connections to experiences.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years old.
  • Must have a minimum of a High School Diploma / GED
  • Valid Driver's License | clean driving record | ability to operate a 15 passenger van
  • Excellent organizational and oral/written communication skills
  • Model positive behavior management and engagement
  • Must be ok being outside in ALL weather and ALL seasons
  • Ability to walk and stand 90% of the work day, and carry/lift up to 50lbs
  • Current certification in hands-on CPR/First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens, Food Handler Card, MMR vaccination record(s) or exemption, and a negative TB test or willing to obtain upon employment.
  • Must be able to pass a DCYF criminal background check

Desired Qualifications:

  • 1 to 2+ years of experience in child-care preferred / all positions are experience & education based
  • Age Groups: Toddler ; Preschool ; School-age
  • Knowledge/Experience with: Potty training ; diaper changing ; standing diaper changing
  • Some college preferred
  • Certified Teacher, Early Childhood Education(ECE), Child Development Associate (CDA) or Early Child Development Coursework
