JOB SUMMARY:

The Cook in Nutritional Services plays a key role in delivering a positive patient and guest experience by preparing high-quality, nutritious meals in alignment with the mission of WCHCD to provide premier healthcare. This position is in constant contact with the public and serves as a direct reflection of the hospital's commitment to excellence in care and service.

The Cook is responsible for the preparation of a wide variety of foods, including meats, poultry, fish, vegetables, starches, soups, sauces, casseroles, sandwiches, baked goods and desserts, as outlined on the current menu. Meals are prepared for hospital patients, the employee/visitor cafeteria and in-house catered events. The Cook must demonstrate proper food safety practices, attention to detail and a high standard of cleanliness and presentation. This position reports directly to the Nutritional Services Supervisor.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Preparing and cooking meals according to the posted menu and dietary guidelines
  • Ensuring food quality, taste and presentation meet established standards
  • Maintaining a clean and organized kitchen work area
  • Following all food safety and sanitation regulations
  • Assisting with inventory, food storage and supply rotation
  • Communicating effectively with the food service team and other departments
  • Supporting special dietary needs and event catering as assigned

Cook - Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Food Handler Certificate required
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to read, write and follow written and verbal instructions
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow recipes and menus accurately
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with the Nutritional Services Supervisor and team members
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Prior food preparation or cooking experience in a healthcare or institutional setting preferred
  • Ability to meet the physical and functional requirements outlined in the job description
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check and reference checks
