Tax Collector

This class is accountable for assisting in the duties of the tax office involving customer service and the collection of tax payments.

Supervision is received from the Tax Collector and may supervise or lead lower-level clerical staff as assigned.

Examples of essential duties include enforcing the collection of delinquent taxes, handling phone and written correspondence, processing and reporting for various accounts, performing opening and closing procedures, researching payment history, and responding to information requests.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required include understanding Connecticut and Federal Statutes, proficiency in computer software and report writing, judgment in analysis, internet research, maintaining professionalism and confidentiality, working independently and collaboratively, and expressing oneself succinctly and professionally.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED certification and three years of experience in a tax office, with college training substituting for experience up to two years. A valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license may be required.
