About the position
The Municipal Worker (Water Works) position in the City of Cincinnati involves performing various manual labor tasks related to water works maintenance and operations. This part-time role requires physical fitness and the ability to operate various tools and equipment while ensuring the cleanliness and functionality of water works facilities. The worker will engage in tasks such as cleaning elevated tanks, landscaping, assisting with water main repairs, and maintaining city vehicles and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Manual labor including elevated tank cleaning and chemical loading/unloading.
- Landscaping and maintaining trees, shrubs, and grass using various tools.
- Moving furniture and cleaning outlying stations.
- Trash and sludge removal, jackhammering concrete, and shoveling gravel/concrete.
- Cleaning and pressure-washing equipment and vehicles.
- Sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning and restocking restrooms.
- Snow and ice removal, including spreading salt and other deterrents.
- Driving city vehicles for delivery of goods and using pneumatic tools.
- Assisting with water main repairs and working in excavations.
- Laying hot/cold asphalt and loading/unloading trucks.
- Cleaning and restocking crew trucks and maintaining tools and equipment.
- Setting up traffic control and flagging traffic as needed.
- Interacting professionally with the public and other employees.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age with a High School Diploma.
- Valid Driver's License required.
- Ability to learn to operate equipment used in the classification.
- Physical condition necessary for prolonged sitting, standing, and walking.
- Ability to perform heavy to very heavy lifting and carrying tasks.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights up to 200 feet.
- Must pass a respirator physical and fit test.
