Parks Maintenance Worker
Job Description
Responsibility for providing skilled to semi-skilled activities in the maintenance and construction of parks, buildings, facilities and other landscaped areas. Work responsibilities may extend to special work assignments, including swimming pool maintenance and playground construction projects. Work is performed under the general direction of the Parks Manager or other supervisory employee.
Essential Functions of Work
Mows grass and sprays weeds; lays sod; waters and fertilizes grass and landscaped areas; applies pesticides. Performs minor repairs to buildings and facilities; installs and removes signs; maintains parks equipment. Removes ice and snow; installs and removes snow fences. Works with and provides skilled trades personnel with assistance on various carpentry, plumbing and irrigation system projects. Checks and interprets gauges, flow meters and other monitoring equipment to ensure the City's swimming pools are operating efficiently. Maintenance and cleaning of Park buildings.
Education and Experience
High School diploma or equivalent. One year of experience in parks, building and grounds maintenance.
NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Candidate must possess or have the ability to obtain valid Montana driver's license
- Ability to obtain a Montana pesticide applicator's license within one year.

This position does not supervise staff.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions and is exposed to cold, heat, noise, dust, vibration, chemicals, and mechanical hazards.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, reach, ride and perform similar body movements. The employee must frequently lift and / or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move over 50 pounds. Possess hand / eye coordination sufficient to operate maintenance equipment, hand and power tools, and a motor vehicle; the ability to talk and hear in person or by telephone or two way radio; and the ability to see and read instructions and reports.
EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
The work schedule is a 40-hour work week, Sunday through Saturday. Work is typically performed Monday through Friday. This position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime. Any overtime must be authorized prior to working.
TRAVEL
Travel is primarily local during the business day. Occasional travel may be required to attend off-site training and educational opportunities.
