Police Officer Full Time

The City of Mount Carroll Police Department is currently seeking qualified persons for the positions of Police Officer full-time. Pay for this position starts at $25.77 and incentives are available for qualified employees. REQUIRED: Interested persons who meet or exceed the minimum requirements must complete the police department application found at and submit along with a resume to chief@mountcarrollil.gov.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Follows standard operating procedures, looks for law/ordinance violations in the City.
  • Ensures appropriate communications with victims, offenders, citizens, community groups, 911 center, states attorney, and other law enforcement officers.
  • Responds to and handles criminal and civil matters that are dispatched through the 911 center or the police station following appropriate policies and procedures.
  • Responds to internal and external calls that do not require law enforcement response.
  • Completes police reports, traffic citations, notice to appears, and all other paperwork as required.
  • Responds to emergency calls while operating emergency lights and siren in a controlled manner.
  • Enforces all local traffic ordinances and traffic laws from the Illinois Vehicle Code.
  • Responds to emergency and non-emergency requests from other law enforcement agencies/officers.
  • Enforces all local, state, and federal laws and ordinances as necessary.
  • Provides police presence.
  • Performs criminal and non-criminal investigations against persons and property.
  • Refers citizens to appropriate social agencies.
  • Performs daily inspection of all assigned equipment and vehicles.
  • Responds to intrusion, hold-up, and fire alarms and performs building checks.
  • Provides supervision to part-time sworn officers and Auxiliary officers, if applicable.
  • Attends court proceedings and represents the Mount Carroll Police Department as required.
  • Performs undercover activities as directed.
  • Attends state-certified training in order to remain current in law enforcement procedures.
  • Prepares and presents classes, meetings, or displays to the public as required.
  • Makes arrests as needed, following appropriate department procedures.
  • Ensures that evidence is safely transported and secured as required.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must be certified as a Police Officer in Illinois or able to promptly obtain a training waiver
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent and at least one year of related work experience
  • Ability to pass the Illinois POWER test if not a currently certified Illinois Officer
  • Professional knowledge of state, federal, and ordinance laws
  • Professional knowledge from Police Training Institute
  • Practical knowledge of defensive tactics and firearms
  • Practical knowledge and ability to use computers, mobile data computers (in-car computers), Police Radio, Emergency Lights, Sirens, Squad Car, Firearms, Handcuffs, Pepper Spray, Mobile Radio, Digital Camera, Cell Phone, Word, Internet, Laptop, Drug Testing Equipment, Copier, Police Baton, PBT’s, Tasers, and other equipment as required
  • Candidates should live within a 30 mile radius of the City of Mount Carroll
  • Candidates should have no adverse criminal or work history
  • Schedule will vary, must be available nights and weekends
  • Retired certified Law Enforcement Officers are welcome to apply

Salary

  • Salary starts at $25.77/hour with shift incentives available
