Ride-Along
<span style="color: inherit; font-style: normal; text-indent: 0">The Indiana State Police Ride-Along Program is an excellent way for those with career, educational, or community interests to ride with one of Indiana’s Finest and gain valuable experience in law enforcement. Interested persons must complete an application and undergo a limited criminal history check, sexual offender registry check and local outstanding warrants check.</span> <p style="margin: 0 0 8pt; color: inherit; font-style: normal; text-indent: 0"><span style="color: inherit">Participants shall be respectful of their assigned officer and follow all instructions given to them. Participants must abide by ride-along protocol. </span></p><p style="margin: 0 0 8pt; color: inherit; font-style: normal; text-indent: 0"><span style="color: inherit">Participants are expected to be neatly groomed and dressed in a professional manner. Appropriate dress is business casual unless otherwise informed based on the day’s schedule of events. Neck ties are not necessary and high-heeled shoes should not be worn while doing ride-along. </span></p><p style="margin: 0 0 8pt"><br></p><p><strong style="color: inherit; font-style: normal; text-align: left; text-indent: 0">BE SURE TO ATTACH THE RIDE-ALONG APPLICATION WAVIER TO YOUR APPLICATION </strong> </p><p><u>Eligibility Requirements: </u> </p><ol style="margin-bottom: 3pt"><li>Must be at least 18 years of age; </li><li>Must possess a valid driver's license; </li><li style="padding: 0; margin: 0">No juvenile or adult criminal arrests or convictions</li><li>If approved, the person must be willing to follow all Department rules, regulations, SOP’s (to include dress code), and reasonable/lawful orders while participating in the program.</li><li><strong>Participants must complete BOTH pages of the Wavier of Liability and Acceptance of Risk form and attach it to their application along with a copy of their photo identification. <u>Only attach what is requested, no other attachments are necessary.</u></strong></li></ol><p><a href="https://www.in.gov/isp/files/Waiver-of-Liability-and-Acceptance-of-Risk.pdf">https://www.in.gov/isp/files/Waiver-of-Liability-and-Acceptance-of-Risk.pdf</a></p><p><strong>No exceptions will be made for anyone not meeting all requirements.</strong></p><p style="margin: 0 0 8pt"><span style="color: inherit"><strong>RIDE-ALONG <strong style="color: inherit; font-style: normal; text-align: left; text-indent: 0"><strong>PROGRAM</strong> SCHEDULING :</strong></strong></span><span style="color: inherit"><strong> </strong> </span> </p><p style="margin: 0 0 8pt"><span style="color: inherit">Participants will coordinate their schedule with the district assigned. Participants should be mindful police work is a 24/7 job and may include evenings and weekend work. Weather and criminal incidents may also affect the schedule. Participants must be flexible to allow for changes accordingly.</span></p><p style="margin: 0 0 8pt"><strong><span style="color: inherit">PARTICIPANT SAFETY & SECURITY</span></strong></p><p style="margin: 0 0 8pt"><span style="color: inherit">Law enforcement by its very nature is an inherently dangerous profession. The Indiana State Police will take every possible precaution to ensure the safety of every ride along participant. No matter how well trained or prepared one is, circumstances arise where danger must be dealt with. </span></p><p style="margin: 0 0 8pt"><span style="color: inherit">Every ride along participant must sign a waiver of liability from the Indiana State Police. The ride along participant is not “employed” by the Indiana State Police in any fashion, nor are he/she covered by the Indiana State Police insurance plan. The Indiana State Police will not be liable for the actions of the ride along participant acting outside the scope of the responsibilities defined or beyond the direction of the responsible Trooper they are assigned to. </span></p><p style="margin: 0 0 8pt"><span style="color: inherit">Ride along participants will have no law enforcement authority. Ride along participants will not be armed. Ride along participants CANNOT carry any type of weapon, even with a valid permit.</span></p>
