About the position

The Nurse Extern PRN in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Reston Hospital Center is a part-time position designed for nursing students to gain hands-on experience in a clinical setting. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the extern will assist in providing high-quality, patient-centered care, contributing to the overall well-being of patients in the neonatal unit. Responsibilities

  • Assist nursing staff in providing patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).

  • Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care services related to common nursing functions and activities of daily living.
  • ,
  • Work closely with the clinical team to create and implement care plans.
  • ,
  • Obtain and record initial and ongoing patient information throughout the cycle of care.

  • Assist with patient mobility by regularly turning, positioning, and ambulating patients.

  • Translate complex medical terminology for patients, families, and caregivers to ensure understanding of medical conditions and treatment plans.

  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers on healthy lifestyle changes and self-management upon discharge.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited school of nursing.

  • Ability to perform higher-level procedures once competency is achieved.

  • One year of completed nursing school is preferred.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
