Substitute School Nurse

<strong>Qualifications<br><br></strong><ul><li>LPN </li><li>Graduate of an accredited School of Practical Nursing with a current good standing Tennessee Practical Nursing License or other legal credential required</li><li>Current certification in CPR BLS for Healthcare Provider</li><li>3 years of nursing experience (pediatric experience is a plus)</li><li>Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable</li><li>Critical thinking skills</li><li>Overseeing medication administration, health care procedures, and the development of healthcare plans</li><li>Overseeing vision, hearing, body mass index, and mental health screening procedures</li><li>Proficiency in enteral feedings, catheterizations, and diabetic monitoring preferred</li><li>Physical ability to endure extended periods of standing, walking, running, sitting and/or stair climbing. Ability to push/lift/carry up to 40 pounds.</li><li>Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel preferred </li><li>Ability to communicate with teachers/parents/children</li><li>Professional appearance </li><li>Dependable transportation to site<br><br></li></ul><strong>Reports To<br><br></strong><ul><li>Principal<br><br></li></ul><strong>Performance Responsibilities<br><br></strong><ul><li>Conducts school programs of immunization, physical examinations, sight and hearing testing as directed by Health Services.</li><li>Observes students on a regular basis to detect health needs.</li><li>Instructs teachers on screening students for health defects.</li><li>Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students.</li><li>Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on student health matters.</li><li>Assumes authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered an injury or emergency illness.</li><li>Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures.</li><li>Implements Board policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.</li><li>Participates in in-service training programs.</li><li>Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools.</li><li>Performs job duties under the supervision of Registered Nurse.</li><li>Perform responsibilities according to the Nurse Practice Act and Roane County Schools Policy and Procedure Manual.</li></ul>
